ASA DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
Welcome to Australian Shepherd Advocates (ASA)! Enjoy scrolling through to see all the ASA Dogs currently available for adoption. Our main mission is to rescue herding breed dogs- including, of course, Aussies, but also Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, and other herding breed mixes. (Occasionally, you will find dogs of other breeds in need, brought to us by ASA Team Members.)
Every ASA dog comes fully vetted according to veterinarian protocol for their age. Our adoption fee is $275-$350 unless otherwise stated for a specific dog. You can read about the dogs available for adoption here. ASA takes great care in describing the personality, temperament and needs of every dog. If you are interested in being considered as a possible adopter for one of our dogs, please fill out and submit an adoption application under "Adopting an ASA Dog" in the menu. Volunteer or paid transporters are usually available to help our dogs travel to their Forever home, depending on the dogs needs and their distance from the approved chosen adopter.

BEAUTY
Beauty. She likes to boogie! Beauty's an approximately 3 year old black bicolor, 45 poundish, average energy, Aussie girl with a boppin' bobtail. Foster Mom says she's a lovable, smart, silly girl who boogies her bouncy bootay when she's happy and leaps and bounds when she's excited! She's a Beauty who likes to boogie... Nothing gets this gal bouncin' like playing with a good ole Chuck-it ball in the backyard! Beauty loves Kong SqueakAir Balls too. Beauty's an Independent. She is a loyal and sweet pup, but not 'hug me, squeeze me, crowd me' canine. The girlie forms strong bonds when her trust and confidence are won by her Person. This Beauty knows what she likes. And prefers to come to you when she's ready for pets and ear scratches. And won't that make you feel like a million bucks when she does?! She will make a good companion to hang out with. Beauty's security and affection will come from her Person's confidence that there's no need to push. Don't make the mistake some do that independent means stubborn. Not at all. Beauty is very responsive to direction-calm calls and gentle but firm correction is all that is needed. Beauty responds in kind-happy tones bring out that wiggle waggle butt-joy. Slow and steady makes Beauty a believer. Learning to walk on leash-still a work in progress. Beauty isn't really fond or certain yet of leash walking-she becomes a bit reticient. Foster Mom is working with her, but girlie will need further intentional training with her Person. Foster Mom says she can see her making a good hiking buddy in the future with steady coaching. Beauty's less best things? Car rides give tummy yucks, so aren't a current favorite pastime. This may be due right now to her need to first find her Place, and her Person. Beauty initially displayed resource guarding, especially other dogs-it got better as she adjusted. Still, her Person will want to give her consistent boundaries and guidance on what is acceptable manners here. Beauty is a little skittish at first. She needs a time to decompress and learn new environment. This is where that slow and steady come in again. The girlie's champion has all the desire to give her the gift of patience and time. As her Person works with her, allows her to decompress, become more familiar with her Place and more secure-Beauty will become more comfortable at Home. In her Foster Home, when folks aren't home, Beauty prefers to be in her crate. She has no problem with chilling in it for a few hours, specifically when she's home alone. So, who are Beauty's People? For this sweet, super smart, independent gal-a calm, optimistic, even-tempered, confident, like-temperament Person who just wants a dog to hang out with will be her perfect partner. A companion. She isn't meant for anyone looking for a demonstrative licks and cuddles dog. The girlie is responsive to direction, but tone (happy, and even) EVERYTHING to keep her engaged. Beauty is around other dogs and kiddos in her Foster home, however, she is quite cautious and wary around them. A calm, confident, canine pal might be nice. Older, gentle children 14 and up who respect dogs and their language will likely do well with this Beauty. Kitties are a puzzle, so she is fine without felines. A quieter home, without a whole lot of visitor traffic is ideal for this gal. If Beauty can hang out with her Person most of the day, play fetch and catch the ball, eventually maybe walks or hikes on quiet trails-she's a happy, wiggle and and bound. Herding breed experience is helpful, but is not required for Adopters who have educated themselves on the Aussie breed. Because of her need for leash acclimation, and get-to-know-you time, a fenced in yard is preferred, but may not be necessary for very dog centric, hands on folks. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments)and dog parks are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow, monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. Beauty bounces by to say, 'Do we sound like a match? Let's boogie!' They don't adopt dogs without forethought, and research the needs of breeds and deaf dogs. Loving, patient but hands on in guiding their pup. They don't think 'poor dog' when they see a deafie. They note the way way they communicate with their eyes and heart. Naturally, deaf Aussies are just as smart and enjoy mental engagement, activity and especially, being with their People. Chrissy is shy at first in new a environment-a little time, and tlc, elicits her innate sunny self. Her potential Forever has some experience or has educated themselves on the joys, quirks, and particular needs of a special Aussie before filling out an adoption application. A fenced yard is important, however, it may not be necessary for a specific kind of adopter-experienced with herding dogs, home a lot, committed to leash training, never, ever lets a dog out off leash, etc. Kiddos 8ish and up, raised to respect dog language, needs and boundaries will be besties with Oak. A confident, medium energy dog friend or two would be perfect. Chrissy should be fine with dog savvy kitties. TOMMY
Tommy, Charming Trooper
Tommy is an extraordinary young fella.
How so? The approximately 17 month, 45-50 pound double merle (DM) medium energy, eager-to-please Aussie mix is a trooper who has overcome a rough past. But, he's an unstoppable happy pup with a lotta personality today.
Tommy Tough
Why do we say Tommy is a tough trooper?
1. Tommy, our trooper came to ASA from another rescue after going through surgery to remove an outgrown puppy collar-it became embedded into his neck! He's fully recovered. And it didn't stop Tommy from being a reislient dog with a big pupsona!
2. There are also signs that this tough guy endured hour after hour (after hour) locked up in a cramped crate as a puppy. Tommy has a slight "cow" hock (back legs have a splayed look). Not that that has stopped him. Tommy runs and plays with the other dogs, like the other dogs. The fortunate fellow has been with an uber experienced Foster Mom who has strenghtened both his legs and his innate confidence. In fact, the boy has absolutely thrived in an exceptionally experienced Foster home. 3. Tommy is deaf. What does that mean? To Tommy? Not. A. Single. Thing. It hasn't stopped him for a minute. He spends HIS days being his own Tommy self.
Tommy Today
Neglect and disregard didn't hold this trooper back. Tommy's unstoppable! The hearty herder is brimming with personality-he simply soaks up attention and eats up affection. Lapping up all the love, pets, and snuggleups! Being with People, hanging out, by your side-Tommy boy seems especially drawn to chilling with the guys. Likes hanging out with other canines of various sizes and ages at his foster home-he fits right in the pack. Tommy enjoys toys-balls are a particular favorite. The lots of pupsonality pooch, Foster Mom says, fancies himself quite the conversationalist (chatty?).
The responsive and smart pup knows many hand signals. Tommy's proven resilient and quickly adapts to find his place. His house manners are nice; he uses the doggie door. Tommy needs work on crate training as needed-he spent too much time in one as a very young pupper.
Tommy's Crew? Well, they are the kind of people who have lots of hugs to give and loads of love. They'll be confident and adaptable as Tommy is. They don't get how others can do life without a dog. Tommy is a brave, reislient dog, a very happy charmer who dotes on attention. He'd do great with Folks who are home most of the time-maybe work from home or retired. His potential Forever has some experience or has educated themselves on the joys, quirks, and particular needs of a special Aussie before filling out an adoption application. A fenced yard is preferred, but it may not be necessary for a specific kind of adopter-experienced with herders/deafies, or educated themselves on their needs, who with herding dogs, home all the time, committed to leash training, never, ever lets a dog out off leash, etc. Kiddos 8ish and up, raised to respect dog language, needs and boundaries will LOVE Tommy. A laidback dog friend or two would be perfect. Tommy should be fine with dog savvy kitties.

ZEUS
Zeus, 'Bosom Buddy, Lifelong Pal' Our little guy, Zeus, is an approximately 18 month old, double merle Mini Aussie. This fellow is only about 20 pounds and most of that is his big beautiful bestie heart! Zeus has all the sweet nature that so many deaf and vision impaired (mydriasis-fixed pupils) pupsters possess. All he asks is to be the center of your heart,...and your attention. Zeus wants to be your next best pup, boon companion and bosom friend. We don't think he has a social media presence, but if he did, Zeus would definitely aspire to be an Influencer- he'd want all the 'hearts'. Zeus is in the awesome care of a very, very experienced Foster Mom. He has been around dogs of varying sizes and especially loves on the younger puppies. Truly, there isn't much Zeus doesn't like-toys are tops and cuddles are coolest. Zeus is crate trained, and house trained-he uses a doggie door. When folks are gone, the Zeuster should be in his crate. Our fella knows several hand signals, and sits to wait his turn for yummies. Leash training is still at novice level. Zeus, is a medium Aussie energy fellow with an eager to please and confident personality. The special thing about Zeus is his innate self assurance and determination not be left behind. If you can give any dog time, training and love, chances are you can adopt a boy like Zeus. Forever After? Well, they are the kind of people who have lots of hugs to give and loads of love. They'll be confident and adaptable-like Zeus. They don't get how others can do life without a dog. Maybe they are the type who think a little differently than the 'norm' and put a little extra into their days to get a little more. They don't see Zeus and think 'Oh, poor thing.' He'd be offended. They see a lifelong Buddy. They see a dog who loves to BE. His potential Forever has some experience or has educated themselves on the joys, quirks, and particular needs of a special Aussie before filling out an adoption application. Since Zeus is deaf and has visual impairment, a fenced yard is important. It may not be necessary for a specific kind of adopter-experienced with herding dogs, home all the time, committed to leash training, never, ever lets a dog out off leash, etc. Kiddos 8ish and up, raised to respect dog language, needs and boundaries will be besties with Zeus. I promise to give you lots of love and attention!' Do you want to be Zeus' lifetime #1 Fan? If so, fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. RA "FLIPPY"
Flippy, our Super Sunny Boy. Ra better known now as 'Flippy', hap-happy, super social sunny boy from our 'Mythical' litter. The Flipster was born September 19, weighs about 40 poundish. Flippy has had a very experienced Foster Mom to guide and love on him. He's a smart, energetic, well-adjusted, loving, socialized, confident canine who happens to be...deaf. Foster Mom raves about the lil guy: 'He has the best temperament of any dog I have ever had! He loves all dogs and all people.' The funster enthusiastically frolics with the various resident canines! The unflappable adaptable is lively, bright, and eager to please. Cuddles and loving are Flippy favorites. Treats, tug of war, and balls are pup approved too. Flippy LOVES to learn and he picks things up--- lickety split!!! The VERY bright boy is busy learning things all sorts of things'sit', down', 'touch', 'come', 'yes', 'no', 'stay'-the lil feller does long downs. Flippy does well on walks, and has learned 'heel' with Foster Mom! He's athletic and likes hanging out at agility trials when his foster sibs participate. Foster Mom has been working on a couple of rudimentary rally and agility tricks. He'd make a wonderful on lead hiking or running buddy and would probably enjoy doggy sports. Flippy is doing well in his crate training. The responsive lad goes right into his crate and gets a licky mat as a reward. He patiently waits at the back of the crate when it is time to come out. Folks are home most days, so our lively little extrovert doesn't spend long amounts of time in a crate. He much prefers being with people or other dogs over being alone. The Flipster is on track with house and potty manners. Of course, he's still a young pup-in-training. What do Flippy's Forever Folks look like? Anyone would love this lover! Flipster's Folks should be active, maybe with another fun, dog-loving canine or two. Dog savvy kids 7 and up would likely enjoy this fella. A fenced yard is preferred, but not necessary for an experienced and/or hands-on adopter who keeps their dog on leash and by their side. Before applying, potential adopters should take time to learn about the rewards, needs and quirks involved in welcoming a deafie into your life. Flippy is a match for a dog centric Person looking for a Heart dog. People who make dogs a part of their lifestyle and expand their world. Enjoy doing things and playing dog games with them. Deafies are wonderful, reislient, smart. Training and communicating with them is little different than interacting with a hearing canine-as long as you are hands-on, motivated, consistent, optimistic, patient and committed. Australian Shepherds are a wonderful, social, smart breed who need to be with their People, interact with them and have things to do. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) and dog parks are not always a good fit. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you have the time to give and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips or nibbles, please apply with that in mind. Flippy, (aka Ra)-a unflappable, adaptable, happy, loveable. Sunny Boy. He deserves a playful, active, attentive, 'me and my dog' Forever. If you think that's you, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.) https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/dDNce9yr0ChU0F -Fostered in Randolph County, NC. *Read the bio carefully. MAUI
Maui the Minxie! This lil sprite is Maui. Maui is an approximately 7 month old Aussie mix gal (maybe husky?). Maui minxie has lots of puppy energy, smarts, and super sweetness.
Maui and her littermates were found abandoned by the the side of the road. A good Samaritan or two helped get them into rescue. Now? Now they, like Maui, are ready and raring to get to their Forever Home!
Maui is overflowing with personality. She's a gal who knows her own mind. At the top, is P-L-A-Y. Maui LOVES tug-of-war style games and romping with her puppy pal. She puppy grrs and barks as she frolics about. Squeaky toys are an invitation for happy howls and Foster Mama can't help but laugh at this joyful gal's antics! The minxie will leap into the air and pounce on her toy, or on her furry friend. When her puppy sister is ready for a nap, Maui doesn't hesitate to coax big foster brother (the resident golden) to join her. She does know when it is chill time and listens respectfully when big bro or Foster Mama call "time out". Foster Mama says the minxie is as responsive as she is bright.
Maui is made to go-she's an independent, high energy, intelligent and responsive spirit. (Maui learned "sit" in a minute). The puppy already comes when she is called. She's a likely candidate for doggie sports-like, agility, flyball, Fast CAT. Maui could be trained by her heart human to be a great trail buddy, running companion or car co-pilot. Maui travels well in her carrier in the golf cart-but her preference is being held so she can see everything and take it all in. The world is a fascinating place.
Maui has all the sweet-heart to match her play-game! Foster Mama calls Maui a "Heart Melter" with her soul filled eyes and cuteness. Cuddles and snuggles are Maui's next favorite thing after play. The pupper patters right over to her Person when it's time to be held. Pets and Tummy Rubs elicit gremie growls of contentment.
The sprite is on target for learning house manners, but, of course, she's still a pup in training.
Where is Maui's Forever After? This lil fairy princess will do best in a home with active folks-people who like to see and do and bring their fur family member along. Maui's Forevers have TONS of BIG love to give to this little one along with the fun and games. She does great with the kiddoss she's met, we think dog savvy youngsters 8 and up will be great. A fun fur bud her size or so would be perfect. Maui hasn't been tested around felines yet. Whomever wants to add Maui to their home will have to be familiar with herding breeds and understand their need for hands-on-training, things to do, and their social "part of the family" nature. A fenced in yard is preferred but may not be necessary for the very experienced herding home.
Maui is bright eyed and ready to take on the world with her Best Friend by her side-lovingly showing her the best life a dog and human can have.
Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. Maui is bright eyed and ready to take on the world with her Best Friend by her side-lovingly showing her the best life a dog and human can have.

MALIA
Malia, lil Pixie! This pretty pixie is Malia. Malia is an approximately 9 month, full tail 40 poundish (not likely to get any bigger) Aussie/Husky mix (aka Australian Siberian). She's a lively pixette with the best of both breeds-playful, smart, loyal, curious and always ready to go! Malia is compact sprite size who loves, loves, LOVES being outside and spending time flitting in and out of the doggie pool and playing in water. Malia and her few weeks old littermates were found abandoned by the side of the road. Who does that? A very good Samaritan or two helped get them into a safe rescue. Now? Our Malia, is ready and raring to get to their Forever Home! She's been with an experienced Foster and dogs of all sizes and ages. Malia grunts and growlies as she tugs with her toys-bring on all the toys, stuffies, fun, and games! The pupper loves being in the spotlight and the attention of her Favorite Human. No doubt she'd make a fun run buddy or 'let's take on the trails' trekmate with her energy and exuberant nature. Belly rubs also make Malia's day! Malgal's very responsive, comes when she's called and learns quickly.('Sit' on the first try for a tasty tidbit!) She has been out and abouts on the golf cart before and thought that was cool. The pixie has house manners and is use to a doggie door. Malia's Forever After? Huskies and Husky mixes, in general, are adventurous and small critter-gitters, so need Folks who are experienced, or always, always intentionally monitor their dog. Her Future Besties will help Malia learn when to stay and where to go. Like many Aussie/herding dogs, clever girl might enjoy interactive games. Her Forevers must be experienced with spirited dogs and believe an active life is a happy life. Have patience, confidence and of course, love for this breed mix. Malia's done fine with kiddos she's met-8 and up who respect dogs will be great. A dog bestie of similar temperament and energy level would also be perfect. Malia hasn't been around kitties. Her People will have no smalls-felines or hamsters to worry about or be very familiar with Husky tendencies around small critters and able to teach her appropriate boundaries. Whomever wants to add Malia to their home will have to be understand the breeds and their need for hands-on-training, things to do, and their social 'part of the family' nature. A fenced in yard is preferred, though this girlie shouldn't ever be left unmonitored in one. However, a fence may not be necessary for the very experienced home. If you aren't ready for a likes to go and do girl who loves attention like Malia-she isn't the one for you. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. COLE
Cool Cole, Aussie Gold! The handsome Colestar is approximately 6 years old, average male size of 60 poundish, black tri color, bobtailed purebred Aussie boyo. This boy, this good boi doesn't need much but deserves a Happy Home. Cole's all Aussie-parentage, intelligence, zoomies and wigglebuttness. He loves his Person, romping outside and just a Good Boi! Cole is made for the REAL Australian Shepherd lover. Foster Mom says Cole's specialty is super duper 'so happy to see you' whole body waggle wiggles! Cole came to the rescue through no fault of his own. The cool canine has lots of hugs and heart to share. He prefers the company of His Person but enjoys ziging, zagging, and zooming in the backyard with his calm and playful foster fur fellows. After some run and fun time Cole is ready for downtime dozing and cozy cuddling. Cole knows his house manners. A quirk of Cole's is his 'hmmm' where felines are concerned. When he first encountered them in the foster home he was a bit of a-well, scaredypup. They are different than good ole dogs, no? He's accustomed to them now but will never be their #1 Fan. It's a live and let live relationship. Cole needed a couple weeks to decompress when he first came to Foster Mom. She gave him space and time to observe his surroundings. Cole's crate is his haven when things get a bit overwhelming. He would grumbly growl a bit at first (Listen, give me a moment), but his Foster family understood. Consistency, treats and even some upbeat 'Good Boi' wooing and cooing helped him feel more confident and secure. Cole's a typical Aussie aussome-medium energy, lot of smarts and spirit and all for his Person. The key to his cool Coleness-the boy is wriggly wiggly ha-hap-HAPPY to see the ones who have earned his heart! He has, truly, a Heart of Gold. Cole's Forever After? Cole deserves to be Someone's 'Good Boy'. He's a Cool dog. Folks looking for a friend to keep them company, a companion to hang out with in the backyard or have near while streaming, will love Cole. Cole's Person will have a patient, postive, kind, confident, self-aware disposition. They enjoy a 'my dog is my buddy' outlook -and actually want to give Cole time. When his trust is won- the reward is a loyal companion, sidekick and a lifetime satisfaction knowing you gave a good dog a good home. Cole would do best with a calm and confident canine mate to share life with and learn dog ways from. Kiddos 10 and up who respect dogs well, will appreciate Cole. A fenced in back yard is good, as especially in early days, the pooch needs a secure place to go to and be active in. HOWEVER, someone who knows dogs well, monitors them always, is fairly active, keeps their pup on leash and takes time to train their dog to new experiences and environments would be a Cole possible. Patience and confidence count. Cole should have easy access to a crate retreat, especially during decompression and transition. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) and dog parks are probably not a good fit for this canine. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. The Colester wiggle-waggled by to say: 'I'm ready to be by your side Forever! If you have the love and time, I've got the wiggles and wuv.' (He tried). Is the Colestar meant to be your Good Boi? If so, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. Foster Mom says 'Rowdy loves to be involved in whatever I have going on-treks by the lake, relaxing-he just wants to be your companion and near you.' Walks, healthy treats, and pets are a few of his favorite things. After a day of play, Rowdy settles by his Person for some quiet hours. The bright boy is great with his fellow four footed foster friends (other dogs, felines too). Rowdy even good naturedly encourages the senior Aussie gal to romp and frolic a bit. Since Rowdy doesn't share well, noms and noshes need to be given separately from any other home fur buds. Forever folks can work with the Rowdster-he's very responsive to consistent, focused monitoring and management. Rowdy does very well in his crate and has good boi house manners. He needs recall work-he tends to come...eventually. What is Rowdy's Best Forever Friend like? The boi is looking for an active, adept Someone to be his bosom buddy and coach.
