ASA DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
Welcome to Australian Shepherd Advocates (ASA)! Enjoy scrolling through to see all the ASA Dogs currently available for adoption. Our main mission is to rescue herding breed dogs- including, of course, Aussies, but also Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, and other herding breed mixes. (Occasionally, you will find dogs of other breeds in need, brought to us by ASA Team Members.)
Every ASA dog comes fully vetted according to veterinarian protocol for their age. Our adoption fee is $275-$350 unless otherwise stated for a specific dog. You can read about the dogs available for adoption here. ASA takes great care in describing the personality, temperament and needs of every dog. If you are interested in being considered as a possible adopter for one of our dogs, please fill out and submit an adoption application under "Adopting an ASA Dog" in the menu. Volunteer or paid transporters are usually available to help our dogs travel to their Forever home, depending on the dogs needs and their distance from the approved chosen adopter.

PIPPI
Pippi Whitestockings! Little Pip is an approximately 10 week old red tricolor Australian Shepherd mix. This brave girl was rescued alongside her siblings from a puppy mill before coming to Australian Shepherd Advocates.
Though a little shy at first, it doesn't take long for Pip's spirit to shine through. She proves to be quite the cuddlebug once comfortable. Belly rubs=best friend. Belly rubs for life! Oh, and yum-yums are a way to her heart, too.
Pippi is a lot like the girl she was named after! Playful-The Pip LOVES toys and balls. Clever-As expected of the "bestest girl in the world", the brainy lass is building her vocabulary with "no" and "off", and does well in her crate after mild sympathy pleas. The pup is very responsive to direction and redirection. Confident little adventurer-Car rides in the crate mean naptime for Pip. When Foster Mom is gone, Pippi hangs out and waits in a designated area. Snuggling up on her doggie bed is the best. Strong, fast and athletic-Pippi's shaping up to be a possible candidate for dog sports and obedience trials. She can spring straight up (maybe imagining she can fly? She is learning to curb her occasional enthusiastic jump ups on people-"off" lets her know to put four on the floor. Pip will sit and offer her Person a paw as a token of Forever friendship.
Loves her People-A little shadow, Pippette will follow you anywhere, everywhere if allowed. She soaks up all the affection and attention she can get. Friendly-Pippi loves romping with kids in the yard. The lass gets along too with all the resident dogs (all shapes and sizes). Bold and a bit bossy-Pippi is food motivated which is nice for training (healthy treats, please). But, has been known to be a little boss girl around the food and water bowls with the other foster pup. Possible resource guarding is a no-no. Fortunately, as mentioned, Pip's responsive and learning. It is a good idea to feed dogs in separate areas. Pippi is a puppy and so just beginning to learn house manners(potty dos and don'ts included).
Pippi's People? They will be active, eager to engage their dog as part of their lifestyle, and all-in for socializing and training a dog who didn't likely get much individual attention in a puppy mill. Pip's folks will give her time- all the time she needs to become trusting and secure in her new home. Time, consistent teaching, clear expectations and loads of love and patience are priceless in helping a girl reach her potential. Pippi will blossom with enrichment experiences and games.
Dog savvy kids 5 and up and a friendly, socialized dogmate are welcome. Pippi hasn't been around felines but slow intros and monitoring should help her understand any boundaries. In fact, intentional, careful introductions with children, other animals, and strangers are always an essential foundation for a happy Forever. They are important for Pippi's Lifetime Adventure.
A fence is preferred but not necessary for an active, engaged, bring our dog along family. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you have the time to give and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips or nibbles, please apply with that in mind.
Pippi pipes up, "I'll always come out on top of your heart, no matter what!"

The approximately 4 month old Aussie blue merle Girl is plenty of playful pupsonality and sweetcakes character. What is cutest about Millie Jo? Foster Mama says (in all caps and with lots of exclamation marks)-"EVERYTHING!!"

Millie Jo has a taste for eaties and treaties. Plushies and stuffies are a favorite too.
The clever puppastry comes to her name and is learning to sit. She's on track with house manners-of course, potties, leash walks and all learning are at pup-in- process level. At her Foster, Millie Jo chills in a gated area and is out with everyone else when they're home. She does ok in her crate and on car rides.
Who is Lil Millie Jo going to bless? Well, her best folks will be at home a lot, have some prior experience with a vision impaired dog and excited about the opportunity to spend time widening this girl's world. The pupcake deserves Someone with a patient, playful, optimistic spirit to engage the engaging girl. Ideally they have a fence and another mellow poochmate. Dog savvy kiddos 8 and up can Millie Jo besties.

OAK
Oak, Mighty Mite! 'Mighty things from small beginnings grow.'- John Dryden. Our little Mighty Mite Oak is an approximately 4 month old, deaf and visually impaired doublemerle Aussie mix who will make you feel all the Feels. Foster Mama says Oak is just plain endearing: 'Confident, playful. EVERYTHING he does is C-U-T-E! ' Not hard to believe. The sunny face. His self-assured, glee-filled playtime with the Foster canine crew (which come in all shapes and sizes). His eagerness to try new things. The sapling is ready for the world! Oak is learning lots with Foster Mama. Sits when she holds a treat to his nose. Toys, treats and doggie bones are definite favorites. The lad doesn't like to share and will guard his food. Best he eats in his own space. When the family is away Oak chills in his puppy pen. When they're he hangs out in the house with the whole gang. The little sprout is never too far from Foster Mama and will go find her when he needs to touch base. Double merles happen 25% of the time when mom and dad are both merles. Responsible humans don't do it. The result too often are puppies that are born deaf and may also be vision impaired. Since little Mighty Mite is deaf and vision impaired, he will need doggles (doggy goggles) to protect his eyes from the sun. His Family? Well, they will have to be folks experienced with a special needs dog, or who have educated themselves and carefully contemplated the lifestyle considerations a darling special needs boy will bring. Along, of course, with the perennial joys. Oak is as smart, loving and active as any Aussie and will need the same mental, physical, and social engagement. In most circumstances, Oak will require a fully fenced yard. Kiddos 7 or 8 and up, raised to respect dog language, needs and boundaries will be besties with Oak. A laidback dog friend or two would be perfect. Kitties are unknown. Apply if you are ready and willing to teach Oak everything, and walk with him through a lifetime of learning the bounty of wonderful things the world can offer. And give lots of hugs and loads of love. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. BANDIT
Bandit, Heart-Stealer! Yo-ho Hearties! Our blue and brown bright eyed plushy tailed blue merle Bandit boy is going to plunder your heart! The approximately 5 year old, 45 poundish Aussie mix has a happy temperamemt and typical herder energy. Foster Mom calls him the "almost perfect Aussie".
Are you seeking a great pal, matey? Bandit has handsome manners, a calm temperament and just all around hail and well met good vibes. The bubbly buccaneer gets along well with kiddos (was raised with them) and pooches of all sizes. In his foster home are senior pups, Chihuahuas, fellow Aussie types- even puppies (he sweetly loves them). He's rather indifferent to felines. Bandit does well on leash, doesn't jump up and is good with his crate. At times, the quirky canine will enter his crate and shut the door behind him. In his previous life Bandit received professional "good dog" training.
So, why is this scallywagger with ASA? Well, as all herding dog afficiandos know-Aussies are smart and social. They need to interact and engage-or, they'll find something to do themselves. Aargh! It is against the Paw-vateer Code to leave our poochmates to concoct quests of their own. Bandit was left alone in his fenced yard for too-long periods. Monotonous. A bit lonely. So...our little wayfarer decided to create an adventure. First step, taking himself up and over-he scaled their chainlink fence. Blimey, Captain Bandit! Avast!
In his Foster home, Bandit is not left in the backyard to do as he will. Temp Mom is Aussie savvy and engages the loving lad. Later, he will lay contendly at her feet.
Bandit's Forevers? He's simply seeking Family that makes their dog a part of their life and lifestyle. Folks that don't leave their dog outside alone. Bandit will be an almost perfect pal for just about anyone, including dog smart kiddos 5 and older. Another laidback canine or two would be a bonus.
Felines are fine. A yard with a privacy fence or wood fence is looked for, but may not be necessary for an experienced and involved who manages and monitors their brood.
It's going to be "fair winds and following seas" in our fella's Forever. The main thing Bandit wants is Someone who understands Aussies and is certain they have the time and temperament for an "almost perfect" boy. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Captain Bandit sailed over to add, "Ahoy! Are you my Forever first mate? Let's live a treasure chest of a life- full of love and fun!" Are you destined to sail the seas of life with Bandit as your pupmate? COLE
Sir Cole, aka Sir WigglyWigglebutt of Loving. Welcome Sir Cole! An approximately 5 year old, 65 pound, black tri color, bobtailed loyal boyo Aussie best friend. Foster Mom says the Cole absolutely vibrates with pure delight when he sees his Person-full body, full on jubliance and joy. Super happy to see you wiggles are his speciality!
Sir Cole came to the rescue from a breeding situation. He likely spent a lot of time outside and is still learning the wonders of being a family member.
The handsome aussome is superiorly sweet and cuddly with his Loves. When he first came to his Foster home the canine was more reticient and had some anxiety. That has tapered off with lots of loving. Cole needed time to observe and acclimate to his new environment. His Foster family understood. Consistency and gentle coaxing helped him gain security. Treats and "What a good boy" Cole-cooing wooed him over. His Forever Loves will be eager to court Cole too-giving him time to get to know them and ease his anxiety before expecting lots of kisses and cuddles. When Cole's trust is won, the reward is his lifelong loyalty and deep devotion-and snugglable snuggles.
Like a proper chivalrous gentleman, Cole knows his house manners. The crate is a haven when things get a little overwhelming-too many things going on, too much noise, too many cats... Oh, yes. The Colester is felinophobic (ailurophobia). He avoids them-a bit of a scaredypup. His Futures won't have any.
Cole also just truly enjoys being outdoors. He adores zig-zag zoomies in the fenced yard with his calm and playful fur fellows.
After some run around fun time, Cole is ready for downtime dozing. All in all, he's a typical Aussie- medium energy, with a lot of smarts and spirit. The key to his Coleness-always happy, happy, HAPPY to see the ones who have earned his heart.
Cole's Forever After? Cole doesn't need much and deserves the best. Folks looking for a friend to keep them company, a companion to hang out with in the backyard or have near while streaming, will love Cole. An experienced, peaceful Homecourt family ready to give 100% commitment to winning his trust and love. They will gently and intentionally bring out his Cole soul and give him new opportunities. They will give him, and themselves, time.
Cole would do best with a calm and confident canine mate to learn dog play from and share life with. Kiddos 12 and up who know dogs well, and have lots of patience will appreciate Cole.
Kitties are a no-go for Cole. A fenced in back yard is best, as especially in early days, the pooch needs a secure place to go to and be active in. Until he knows his people and home, Cole won't recall well when he is anxious or uncertain. Fences help calm and control possible run offs. Cole should have easy access to a crate to retreat in, especially during decompression and transition. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Sir Cole galloped over to say: 'I'm ready to be by your side, my Forever. Our love will be legendary!' Is Sir Cole your Destiny? If so, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. TOBY
Toby, our pure joy boy! The approximately 16 month old adorable sable (rare color) Border Collie mix with an impish twinkle and jaunty prance! The puppin is about 35 pounds-a compact clever britches and sometimes cheeky boyo. Foster Mom says he's a charmer who'll steal your heart while cajoling a third (...fourth?) treat if you aren't careful. Toby has stolen her heart but she's on to his impish ways. The boyo is gifted with smarts, energy, enthusiasm and cheeky cheer. He enjoys his Person and enjoys romping with his Foster canine siblings-they come in a variety pack. Toby came from a home that wasn't able to provide the time and interaction he needed. He was kept in a crate-not a best solution for this exuberant spirit. Foster Mom is experienced with smartypups and has spent time patiently coaching Toby. The lil whippersnapper doesn't get anything over on her. Toby's a champ! He listens attentively and will 'sit' and 'down' and is also learning-'look at me', 'wait', 'touch'. Yummies incentivize. The bright boy waits until prompted to enter and exit his crate. Toby does great in it. He may voice his opinion about some things-like when it's time to get out. He has good house manners. Toby's learning to walk on leash-but he's still a puppy in training. He'd be great in obedience, performance, or doggo sports. He's a typical herding breed who likes to keep his brain busy and his energy focused. Toby just LOVES life and LOVES being a dog. Toby's the lil buddy to keep up with you and take with you. Period. Toby's Forever family are searching for a very energetic, smartypup to guide into adulthood and involve in their active lives. Maybe dog games, agility, camping...Toby is all the potential. Don't apply if you are a pushover. Toby needs a loving coach. Training and socialization are an essential part of pup parenthood. Dog-shrewd kiddos, probably 8 and up will be perfect pals for the passionate pup. A fence is best, but may not be necessary for the right 'let's go boy' experienced person who always monitors their pup. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Toby is excited to start his new life-'Hey Family! I've been getting ready for our Lifetime together! Let's adventure together!' If you have the time to give a pup and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips, please apply with that in mind. HUNTER
Cuz he's got per-so-nality! Little Man Hunter is a precious package of charming pupsonality-smart, happy, loving. He's an approximately 10 month, 25 pound double merle deafie, Aussie mix. Chronically cute, incurably contented, and classically cuddly-this little guy has many talents. Hunter lightens a lousy day and warms a chilly night. The quintessential lap dog-lots of sweet snuggles. Super smart with a superb sniffer-Hunter loves puzzles and snuffle mats and treat treasure hunts. He's a fun, friendly boy who enjoys catch and playing with other pups. No one is a stranger. Foster Mama says, 'Hunter is a gentle little soul with so much love to give, he deserves the warmest, most loving family.' Little man is on target with house manners and sits by the door when nature calls. We suspect Hunter does have a bit of vision impairment as well as being deaf, Mom and Dad will want to get him some doggy sunglasses for outdoor escapades (dog goggles to protect from UV rays and debris). Won't he look Exceptionally Adorable in them? Deaf pooches seem to have a way of connecting on the deepest level, Hunter will be such a Heart Dog. People who are home a lot and looking for a cuddle buddy or prefer to spend their time with a dog by their side will win Hunter's heart. His Forever Family has had experience with a special needs pup or researched their joys and quirks. They have considered the lifestyle and are 100% committed and ready to add a deafie to their home. They are looking for Hunter and will treasure him. His Folks will be herding/working breed knowledgeable and give Hunter social, mental, and physical enrichment. Kiddos 7 and up who understand and respect dogs are great. A fenced yard is best for this fellow, but exceptions are considered for the right 'all-in' family. Invisible fences are not suitable for our deafies. Another confident, socialized dog of similar temperament would be fine. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They invest time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. Hunter popped up to say, 'Hiya, My Forever! I'm soooooo ready be yours. Love you already.' Do you see Hunter's Heart? Is he meant to by your canine cuddle buddy? Fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter.
