ASA DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
Welcome to Australian Shepherd Advocates (ASA)! Enjoy scrolling through to see all the ASA Dogs currently available for adoption. Our main mission is to rescue herding breed dogs- including, of course, Aussies, but also Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, and other herding breed mixes. (Occasionally, you will find dogs of other breeds in need, brought to us by ASA Team Members.)
Every ASA dog comes fully vetted according to veterinarian protocol for their age. Our adoption fee is $275-$350 unless otherwise stated for a specific dog. You can read about the dogs available for adoption here. ASA takes great care in describing the personality, temperament and needs of every dog. If you are interested in being considered as a possible adopter for one of our dogs, please fill out and submit an adoption application under "Adopting an ASA Dog" in the menu. Volunteer or paid transporters are usually available to help our dogs travel to their Forever home, depending on the dogs needs and their distance from the approved chosen adopter.

COLE
Sir Cole, aka Sir WigglyWigglebutt of Loving. Welcome Sir Cole! An approximately 5 year old, 65 pound, black tri color, bobtailed loyal boyo Aussie best friend. Foster Mom says the Cole absolutely vibrates with pure delight when he sees his Person-full body, full on jubliance and joy. Super happy to see you wiggles are his speciality!
Sir Cole came to the rescue from a breeding situation. He likely spent a lot of time outside and is still learning the wonders of being a family member.
The handsome aussome is superiorly sweet and cuddly with his Loves. When he first came to his Foster home the canine was more reticient and had some anxiety. That has tapered off with lots of loving. Cole needed time to observe and acclimate to his new environment. His Foster family understood. Consistency and gentle coaxing helped him gain security. Treats and "What a good boy" Cole-cooing wooed him over. His Forever Loves will be eager to court Cole too-giving him time to get to know them and ease his anxiety before expecting lots of kisses and cuddles. When Cole's trust is won, the reward is his lifelong loyalty and deep devotion-and snugglable snuggles.
Like a proper chivalrous gentleman, Cole knows his house manners. The crate is a haven when things get a little overwhelming-too many things going on, too much noise, too many cats... Oh, yes. The Colester is felinophobic (ailurophobia). He avoids them-a bit of a scaredypup. His Futures won't have any.
Cole also just truly enjoys being outdoors. He adores zig-zag zoomies in the fenced yard with his calm and playful fur fellows.
After some run around fun time, Cole is ready for downtime dozing. All in all, he's a typical Aussie- medium energy, with a lot of smarts and spirit. The key to his Coleness-always happy, happy, HAPPY to see the ones who have earned his heart.
Cole's Forever After? Cole doesn't need much and deserves the best. Folks looking for a friend to keep them company, a companion to hang out with in the backyard or have near while streaming, will love Cole. An experienced, peaceful Homecourt family ready to give 100% commitment to winning his trust and love. They will gently and intentionally bring out his Cole soul and give him new opportunities. They will give him, and themselves, time.
Cole would do best with a calm and confident canine mate to learn dog play from and share life with. Kiddos 12 and up who know dogs well, and have lots of patience will appreciate Cole.
Kitties are a no-go for Cole. A fenced in back yard is best, as especially in early days, the pooch needs a secure place to go to and be active in. Until he knows his people and home, Cole won't recall well when he is anxious or uncertain. Fences help calm and control possible run offs. Cole should have easy access to a crate to retreat in, especially during decompression and transition. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Sir Cole galloped over to say: 'I'm ready to be by your side, my Forever. Our love will be legendary!' Is Sir Cole your Destiny? If so, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.) https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/dDNce9yr0ChU0F -Fostered in KY. *Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a Happy Forever. Transport help available for many dogs to many states depending on dog's best interest. Adoption Fee: $350

MILLIE
Marvelous Miss Millie! Our 6 year old, 50 pound Millie is a bobtailed rosy red merle girl looking for her Forever Place. Her bright soul shines through honey brown eyes and her riggle, quiggle wigglebutt. Let's just say, our curvy girl has more waaay more bustle than hustle. 'Millie' means'gentle strength', and our resilient sweetie is 100%. Her experience as a breeding dog-most often outside and separated from people- has caused some timidity with new people. Since coming to rescue, Millie is displaying that gentle strength of hers as a quiet, devoted, cuddly companion. When she first came to her Foster home, Millie was loath to leave Foster Mom's side. With lots of TLC, she is slowly coming into her own. She's definitely all about her Person. Millie is protective and wants to accompany them everywhere. She is beginning to trust that Foster Mom may be out of sight but always returns (or at least only a room away). In true Millie I'm-your-girl fashion, the couch cuddled up with her person is THE fave. What better place to love and be loved on? A low growl warns off a pup that wants equal time with their Person. Nuh-uh Millie girl. Sharing Mom is just spreading the love-everyone gets equal time. Kitties? We don't think Millie has been around them much. Foster Mom took her on a field trip to visit a friend's indoor felines. Millie was more interested in staying by Foster Mom then interacting with these strange furballs. Millie's Adopter will want to observe all kitty contacts and teach her feline-canine boundaries. Miss Marvel didn't have a lot of family pooch fun opps. Fetch? Balls? Toys? She is only just discovering what it's all about. Millie enjoys car rides (it's a great way to go). The Miss likes going to doggie daycare with her foster canine sibs. Miss Millie has a quirk or three. She snores. (Shhh.) Baths are a necessary evil...the blow dryer is a loud unruly monster. Abrupt, sudden noises bother her. Millie will go into her crate when asked...if a teeny bit reluctantly. She does well in it when Foster Fam is gone, and for night-night time. House manners are coming along. She's used to being outside after all. Routine and practice are making perfect. She does ok on a leash, she hasn't really gone on long walks yet as she grows accustomed to them. Millie's Forever? She's eager and responsive to her Person. Millie needs time and patience to allow her natural fierce loving nature to win over her timidity. The resilent and gentle gal deserves a quiet and lowkey manor where sweet Millie can live her days swaddled in peace and comfort. One who will dote on our girl, but continue to bring out her most marvelous with continued training and consistent boundaries. Millie's World has new people, places and playtimes. The Marvelous Miss Millie will make the perfect Companion for a retiree or homebody more interested in curling up with a book than hitting the hiking trails. A come as you are dog savvy family who like to putter in the garden and take casual walks. Kiddos 12 and up who respect their dogs and would like a buddy to couch cuddle with are. Walks are a must to keep Millie fittest. No more uncertain futures for this girl. Millie's entourage will delight in nuturing her confidence, and continue to teach that her Person can be shared-vigilant resource guarding isn't needed. Millie would do well as her Person's one-and-only, though a like-minded canine companion may be welcome. Cats are okay for Someone willing to coach her-gradual introductions and clear boundaries would be best for making cat connections. A fence is a good idea for Millie. She just needs that special Someone to take her under their wing, give her time and open up her world. ICYMI: Basking in the glow of approval and nestling in their affection is Miss Millie's happy place. The one who welcomes her will have a marvelous once in a lifetime best friend dog. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this gal. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Millie says: 'I'm ready to spend my days by your side, and in your heart.' TOBY
Toby, our cheeky boy! The approximately 11 month old adorably (and rarely) colored sable Border Collie mix with an impish twinkle and jaunty prance! The puppin is about 35 pounds-a compact clever britches and sometimes cheeky boyo. Foster Mom says he's a charmer who'll steal your heart while cajoling a third (...fourth?) treat if you aren't careful. Toby has stolen her heart but she's on to his impish ways. The boyo is gifted with smarts, energy, enthusiasm and cheeky cheer. He enjoys his Person and enjoys romping with his Foster canine siblings-they come in a variety pack. Toby came from a home that wasn't able to provide the time and interaction he needed. He was kept in a crate-not a best solution for this exuberant spirit. Foster Mom is experienced with smartypups and has spent time patiently coaching Toby. The lil whippersnapper doesn't get anything over on her. Toby's a champ! He listens attentively and will 'sit' and 'down' and is also learning-'look at me', 'wait', 'touch'. Yummies incentivize. The bright boy waits until prompted to enter and exit his crate. Toby does great in it. He may voice his opinion about some things-like when it's time to get out. He has good house manners. Toby's learning to walk on leash-but he's still a puppy in training. He'd be great in obedience, performance, or doggo sports. He's a typical herding breed who likes to keep his brain busy and his energy focused. Toby just LOVES life and LOVES being a dog. Toby's the lil buddy to keep up with you and take with you. Period. Toby's Forever family are searching for a very energetic, smartypup to guide into adulthood and involve in their active lives. Maybe dog games, agility, camping...Toby is all the potential. Don't apply if you are a pushover. Toby needs a loving coach. Training and socialization are an essential part of pup parenthood. Dog-shrewd kiddos, probably 8 and up will be perfect pals for the passionate pup. A fence is best, but may not be necessary for the right 'let's go boy' experienced person who always monitors their pup. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Toby is excited to start his new life-'Hey Family! I've been getting ready for our Lifetime together! Let's adventure together!' If you have the time to give a pup and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips, please apply with that in mind. If you are Toby's Match please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. SKY
Happy Guy Sky! Imagine being greeted everyday by Sky's sweet, "it's a treat to meet you" darling doggy grin! Sky boy's an Aussie mix-approximately 8 month old, 45 pounds. This guy is a delightful dance mixtape of energy, goofiness, and just a 'happy, happy, happy dog...happy guy'. Sweet Sky's as open and big hearted as you'd expect the boy with that winsome grin to be. Sky was saved from a near miss tragic end by an advocate taken with his big loveable, goofy, trusting puppy heart
What was Sky's transgression that nearly earned him an end sentence? Sky's deaf. He was "returned" to the shelter by a family who didn't understand a deaf dog-toddler dynamic. Deaf doggos are going to be startled by a quick moving tyke they can't see coming. So we will find this plucky pup with the indomitable grin the perfect place. Sky is a happy heart who adores pretty much everyone and everything! People? Yep! Food? Yes, please! Car rides? Let's go! Toys (squeaky, too)? 100%! Balls? Of course, fetch is super-duper funtastic! Walkies? Playing outside in the dirt? Other dogs? Yes, yes, YES! Everyone is a buddy waiting to be met. Everything is a joy to be discovered...or uncovered. Oh wait-EXCEPT baths! Sky is NOT fond of those. Foster Mom uses a licky mat to distract treat motivated Sky when he is forced to endure a pesky bath. Like most puppies, Sky is learning what is appropriate to chew on. Just give the energetic, spirited fun guy lots of toys to play with and Aussie style things to do. Our fluffy fella is friendly with the Foster feline. His people will want to monitor the furballs at first- since Sky likes to play and can't hear feline warnings: "Back off Pooch.". Foster Mom uses a soft leader for walks. He's also a good boy in the crate when she works a few hours. Sky knows his house manners. Any pup in a new home will need time to adjust. Sky is Aussie smart. He responds to signs for "come" and "sit" and learning "down" and "wait". Those treats are a great training tool to help a responsive laddie focus. Actually, stinker Sky thinks "anytime", is always a good time to eat. (Slow feeder is a must for this eager eater.) Sky learns fast! He comes in at night when Foster Mom flashes the light off and on. Sky has some typical deafie anxiety from lack o-can bark at shadows, or be startled by things he doesn't expect. A soft tap on Sky's head is the best way to wake him. Sky is eager for activities to help him focus mental and physical energy, guidance to build confidence and one on one time to give his hopeful nature and high-spiritedness. Being with his People is really Sky's happy place and firm foundation. If he awakes from a nap and doesn't see them, Sky will search, calling out until they are reunited. He's a big hearted, big brained, bit bumbly, bubbly boy looking for his Forever Happy Place. Sky would be a match for herding breed experienced on the move, going-and-doing Folks. Deaf dog knowledge is also helpful. Mental and physical enrichment are essential for Sky lad. Since Sky's an enthusiastic baby, and tumble playful, he'd probably be a better companion for dog-smart kiddos 9 and up. Sky would enjoy having another similar breed buddy (or two!) with an easygoing temperament he can learn all the doggy stuff from. Felines are fine, as long as they're dog savvy. Sky would likely need a fenced in area-exceptions might be made for folks who have lots of experience and continually monitor their dogs. Training is a commitment every dog lover makes and it is especially important for a herding breed, exuberant, deaf puppy. It isn't necessarily harder to teach a hearing impaired pup, but it requires consistency, patience with yourself, and your pooch. The reward-well. Sky's the limit! Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you are ready to experience ALL that comes with a puppy, please apply. Sky bounded up to say, 'Heya hi there! Let's have a contest- who can make the other the most happy? Betcha I'll win!' Ready for unlimited happiness with Sky? BENJI
Benji BFF! Love is easy with Benji. One deep look into those soulfully adoring eyes and you've found your Lifelong Bestie. You can almost feel the connection in his photo can't you? A dog that will nestle in your heart, walk by your side, and never let you down. Benji is a people pup first and a dog's dog-he loves big and small. Playful. Snuggler. Comforter (he actually never left Foster Mom's side when she was sick). The beautiful 3 year old ish, approximately 40 pound, red tri color bobtail Aussie mix is the perfect buddy boy-smart, athletic, responsive and affectionate. Foster Mom says he's a bestie blend of fun fluffbuff and sitback kickback snuggle buddy. Toy joy-He's never met a toy he didn't love. Benji romps around the yard with a delighted grin on his face and a favorite toy in his mouth. There is NOTHING wrong with Benji. His last folks weren't able to offer him the connection an Aussie naturally needs as the social, spirited sidekicks they are meant to be. Benji's peppy prance makes him a possible candidate for doggy sports. Maybe some DIY backyard agility fun. Toy identify, seek and find. Buddy boy might make a nice running or hiking partner. After frolics, Benj settles in for quiet companionship. What else about our best boy? He has very good house and crate manners. At his Foster home, Benji is gentle with the senior canines, including smaller dogs, and fine with the felines. Benji's a canine in training in some things-like, when to give hop-up hellos and leash walks. He's likely to chase outdoor critters. Since Benji claims dibs on toys, he doesn't always share well. Fortunately, he's responsive to his BFF's direction and redirection. Benji just needs someone who is eager and willing to continue to invest time in being his Canine Coach. What does this bright sidekick seek in his Forever Abode? Since Benji is so attuned to his Person, and environment, he will be a perfect match for the calm, experienced family who understand herding/working doggos, and make their dogs a part of their active lifestyle and downtime lounge around. Training, and games build bonds and cozy cuddles cement them. Benji probably needs a fence, though an experienced adopter might not need one. He still tends to greet on his two back paws so we think dog savvy kiddos around 7 and up would appreciate Benji best. Dogs that are calm, confident, and socialized would be nice for him. Indoor cats are too. Dog parks aren't really for this boy. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places. Benji wanted to add, 'Fun and snuggles...Friends Forever. Let's make memories!' DEXTER
Dexter, our darling dynamo! Searching for an extremely eager, especially athletic, exceedingly eager to please, exceptionally cuddlesome loveable huggable Aussie?
Meet Dex. Let's get to it.
Dexter is an approximately 2 year old, 45 pound, bobtail red merle Aussie mix.
*Top level energy and athletIC potential-CHECK.
*Top tier responsiveness and heart-CHECK
*Top shelf snuggle factor-CHECK
Dexter's Forever is going to get a Best Buddy, adventure partner and be the recipient of ALL his focused affection. Dexter and his Coach Bestie are going to have such F U N together! The dynamo's intensity and speed make participating in agility or lure chase (Fast CAT-100 yard course dash) possible.
Dexter came to ASA from a family who didn't have what a dynamic Dex needed to give him his best life. He just wasn't given engagement and enrichment opportunities. Fortunately, he has been with an experienced, hands on Foster Mom who has given those opportunities and guided him through the anxiety the lack created. Structured activities or classes will help Dex and Best Bud will continue to bring out this sweet boy's Dex best. A couple of more things to consider: Dexter does fine in his crate (maybe a protest or two but soon settles down). He's getting the idea to wait until signaled to enter and exit. The happy herder's enthusiasm carries over into love leaps and greets-working on it though. Foster Mom spends time daily with Dex-having fun learning "sit", "down", "wait" to be called. "Place" too has been a great resource command for him (you go to your spot/happy place and hang there). Treats incentivize. What else? Oh! The dude enjoys outings in the car, or walks. Leash training is still in process. Dexter is Aussie aussome and deserves a likeminded active, enthusiastic herding/working breed experienced Best Buddy who wants to try new things with their doggo and see how far they can go together. Adventure seeker? Dog sports? Exuberant outlook? Cuddle and kiss rewards! Since the dynamic dude loves to race and romp with his Foster pooch playfellows (of different sizes), he'd love a family with a pooch pal or two. An enclosed fence is preferable, though it may not be necessary for the right home. Since Dexter's jump up welcomes are still a work in progress, dog savvy kiddos 8 and up would enjoy him most.
Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. Our adopters give their new family member time to decompress, grow familiar with the new environment/routine and invest time to train. They're committed to slow monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and places.
Dex wants you to know: "I'm ready to go and live life to the fullest with you. I'm looking for Forever."
If you are Dex's Bestie, please fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter.

HUNTER
Cuz he's got per-so-nality! Little Man Hunter is a precious package of charming pupsonality-smart, happy, loving. He's an approximately 7 month, 20 pound double merle deafie, Aussie/Corgi mix. Chronically cute, incurably contented, and classically cuddly-this little guy has many talents. Hunter lightens a lousy day and warms a chilly night. The quintessential lap dog-lots of sweet snuggles. Super smart with a superb sniffer-Hunter loves puzzles and snuffle mats and treat treasure hunts. He's a fun, friendly boy who enjoys catch and playing with other pups. Noone is a stranger. Foster Mama says, "Hunter is a gentle little soul with so much love to give, he deserves the warmest, most loving family." Little man is on target with house manners and sits by the door when nature calls.
We suspect Hunter does have a bit of vision impairment, Mom amd Dad will want to get him some doggy sunglasses for outdoor escapades (dog goggles to protect from UV rays and debris). Won't he look Exceptionally Adorable in them? Deaf pooches seem to have a way of connecting on the deepest level, Hunter will be such a Heart Dog. People who are home a lot and looking for a cuddle buddy or prefer to spend their time with a dog by their side will win Hunter's heart. His Forever Family has had experience with a special needs pup or researched their joys and quirks. They have considered the lifestyle and are 100% committed and ready to add a deafie to their home. They are looking for Hunter and will treasure him. His Folks will be herding/working breed knowledgeable and give Hunter social, mental, and physical enrichment. Kiddos 7 and up who understand and respect dogs are great. A fenced yard is best for this fellow, but exceptions are considered for the right "all-in" family. Another confident, socialized dog of similar temperament would be fine.
